So you wanna make some cash, but you don't know how. You are thinking about starting your own business, but you don't know where to start. I was once is those shoes. I was thinking about giving up, but then it dawned on me.
What dawned on me you might ask. I couldn't think of what type of business to start. What is something that I'm really good at, that people need me to do on a regular basis. I love to talk and I love to write. Hmm, I'll do something where I can talk and write. I do it at my 9-5 job anyway. Then the light bulb came on, and in big letters flashed, "Sheila, You Are The Business." No that really didn't happen but if you have ever been in those shoes before then let me explain a little bit.
You Are The Business
1. KFC would be nothing without the Col. Sanders, right? He created an image, that everybody liked and eventually everybody bought the chicken. Now they are KFC's in just about every city in the US. What I'm talking about here is 2 things. Col Sanders was really good and frying chicken. He loved to fry chicken, and before he died he made lot of money from the chicken? Wrong, he made a lot of money from the image that was and still is today Col. Sanders.
For you young heads let me put bring it to your level. Lil Wayne is a good rapper. Since he was a kid he loved to rap and perform. He perfected his craft and his skill, but are you really buying the CD or downloading it from Itunes because you like think Lil Wayne is the GOAT. Nooooo, you bought it because of the image he portrays. You like the gangster/skater boy image he portrays. You bought into the Lil Wayne Franchise, and if he has a good contract with his label, he'll be lucky to get 3-10 cent off the album you bought of his lyrics (you see why it's important to go platinum with those numbers. I mean sheesh only 10 cent an album).
What Col. Sanders and Lil Wayne did was something that has been done probably since the beginning of time. They branded themselves. They created a marketable image, slapped together a product, and badaboom badabing, success in a bag. I will go in depth about branding yourself later own when the time is right. Most likely in a future blog. For now I urge you to google it. You are probably going to find few companies stating that they can "brand you" or help you brand yourself, or whatever. Just remember the key word, its all about reputation. Lil Wayne is probably the most well know rapper out right now. Most would say he is the the GOAT of our time. But, if I told you he was an ax murder, and had pictures of him chopping someone with an ax would you buy his record? Probably not, not even if his lyrics were made out of gold. Why? That would give him a bad reputation. If that was true, then it would make like it look you support an ax murder, and no one wants to do that. No matter what business you are trying to get into find a marketable image, brand yourself, and stick with it. Celebrities do it. Why can't you?
2. Find your niche and stick with it.
I'm sure that most of you have seen this video by Tyler Perry. If not then here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyD7ox4HY74&feature=fvst. In this video he brings up a good point. Find one thing that you are interested and doing and stick with it.
I'll use myself as an example. I started this blog for several reasons. One reason should be pretty obvious so I'm not gonna elaborate on that at this point. But I knew that I liked to write, and I knew that I like to talk, and I also knew that I liked to make money. I knew that I wanted to find the secrets of success, and finance, and all overall having a better life. I knew that growing up I wasn't taught, about things like 401k, stocks, how to get a good deal on car, and how to have a residual income. I also knew that I wanted a platform where I can teach, ask questions, and find answers. I'm not gonna say that I have all the answers. I don't, but I with enough time and research I know I'll find the answers to a lot of questions. Anyway, I started this blog with a target audience in mind. I would say 14-35 is my targeted age group. I realized that talking about money can make me a profit. Later on I will show how it will make me a profit. But yes I geared this toward teenagers and young adults for a specific reason. As you watch the numbers grow on this website you will see why. Plus I will eventually post a video of how this website will make money.
3. Execution
Now here's the next step. Simple.....wait for it........wait for it.........ok here it comes........EXECUTE. Pretty simple right? A lot of people will plan, and plan, and plan until the cows come home, but they wont sit there and execute the freakin thing. I know because I used to be one of those people. I could plan everything, but then when my big moment came I would shaking like baby's rattle with the baby being on steroids Anyway, write out your goals or make a plan. Then turn around and execute it. Whats the worst that could happen? If people don't buy into it, then just make a new plan and try again. Big corporations do this all the time. If any of you remember when Rhianna first came out, she was nothing compared to what she is now. The record label had a plan, they executed it, and then her sales weren't as great as they expected it to be, so then they changed her image and came up with a new plan. Then the record sales went up, and she is now the Rhi Rhi that you see today.
